Há quase duas semanas atrás realizou-se em Londres uma feira dedicada a alimentos/produtos isentos dos mais variados alergéneos, incluíndo o glúten - The Allergy and Free From Show.

Já imaginaram melhor oportunidade de conhecer novas marcas?? :D Sábado de manhã lá fui eu bem cedinho para Londres. Pensava eu que um par de horas ia ser suficiente para dar volta ao pavilhão. Bem enganada que estava! Não me perguntem quantas amostras provei (muitassss!!)! Parecia uma criança, maravilhada com tanta novidade e sentir que as limitações eram muito poucas. Haviam mais duas exposições no mesmo espaço, portanto nem todos os produtos eram isentos de glúten. Mas mesmo assim poderia descrever aquele espaço como um paraíso para aqueles, que por qualquer motivo, não podem ingerir glúten.

Durante os próximos dias irei escrever acerca de algumas das marcas que mais me chamaram à atenção. A próxima feira será em Liverpool, no início de Novembro - http://www.allergyshow.co.uk/liverpool/ - portanto se tiverem oportunidade de passar cá pela ilha já sabem! :D Em Londres só voltará a ser no próximo ano.

A primeira marca de que vos irei falar chama-se Gookies!! Esta marca dedica-se a fazer massas para bolachinhas (com diversos sabores), para além de outros produtos que poderão pesquisar no website -  http://www.freefromfoods.ie/ . Basicamente só têm de cortar os rolos de massa em fatias e colocá-las no forno. E magiaaa, 20 minutos depois estarão a comer bolachas m-a-r-a-v-i-l-h-o-s-a-s!!!! Esta é uma marca irelandesa e segundo a informação na sua página do facebook em breve estarão disponíveis para venda online no restante Reino Unido (e com alguma sorte para outras partes da Europa!).

Almost two weeks ago it was held in London a fair dedicated to food/products free from various allergens, including gluten - The Allergy and Free From Show.

Can you imagine a better opportunity to learn about new brands ?? :D On Saturday morning I went early to London and I thought that a couple of hours would be enough to visit all the show. Well, I was totally wrong! Do not ask me how many samples I've tried  (manyyy!!)! I felt like a child, amazed with the amount of food that we could try without many limitations. There were also two other exhibitions in the same space, so not all the products were gluten free. But still, I could describe that place as a paradise for those, who for whatever reason, can not eat gluten.

Over the next days, I will write about some of the brands that most caught my attention. The next fair will be in Liverpool, in the begining of November - http://www.allergyshow.co.uk/liverpool/ - so if you have the opportunity to come you already know! :D It will be done again in London, but just next year.

The first brand that will write about is called Gookies !! This brand is dedicated to make dough (with different flavours) for biscuits, as well as other products that you can search on the website - http://www.freefromfoods.ie/. Basically, you just have to cut the dough rolls into slices and put them in the oven. And magiccc, 20 minutes later will eat w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l biscuits !!!! This is an irish brand and according to the information on their Facebook page the doughs will soon be available for online sale in the rest of the UK (and with some luck, to other parts of Europe!).

Weekend in London #4 | La Polenteria

Em primeiro lugar, quero pedir desculpa pela ausência. Estas últimas semanas têm sido um pouco mais ocupadas que o normal e a internet cá por casa também esteve ausente...

Mas as boas notícias é que estou de volta e com muitas, muitas novidades!!

Aqui fica mais um post dedicado a quem decidir passar por Londres! :))

La Polenteria - Um pequeno restaurante, mas muito acolhedor, com empregados muito simpáticos!  E como o nome indica, o ingrediente principal neste restaurante é a Polenta, originalmente italiana e  derivada da farinha de milho.

La Polenteria é 100% Isenta de glúten - SIM, 100%! E claro, acreditada pela Coeliac UK! :D

Weekend in London #3 | Honest Burgers

Uma das vantagens das redes sociais é a partilha de informação. Mais uma vez, através da Internet, soube da existência de uma pequena rede de restaurantes localizada em Londres, especializada em hamburguers - Honest Burgers.

Decidimos ir ao Honest Burgers de Notting Hill. Como o tempo estava agradável, fizemos uma caminhada desde Earls Court até lá. Pelo caminho ainda pude matar saudades do mercado de Notting Hill! Londres, Londres...sempre tão especial!

Por fim, chegámos ao restaurante. Pequeno mas confortável! Uma das empregadas prontamente explicou que, à parte do pão, todos os outros ingredientes eram isentos de glúten. Mas como é óbvio havia a opção de pão isento de glúten.

Como não sou grande fã de carne de vaca, optei pelo hamburguer de frango. Para a bebiba acabei por escolher uma limonada com um toque de hortelã.

Ah!! Por cá umas das entradas/petiscos mais famosos são os Onion Rings. É do género dos nossos calamares, mas em vez de lula utilizam cebola. Pela primeira vez provei os onion rings, e não é que são muito bons!!

Resumindo, o almoço foi em grande, com o melhor hamburguer  isento de glúten que comi até agora e com a surpresa dos onion rings! Fica a promessa de lá voltar novamente!! :)

One of the benefits of social networking is the information that is shared. Again, over the Internet, I have found out a small chain of restaurants located in London, specialized in burgers - Honest Burgers. 

We decided to go to Honest Burgers in Notting Hill. As the weather was nice, we took a walk from Earls Court until there. Along the way, we could enjoy the Notting Hill market! How much I have missed it! London, London...always so special!

Finally we got to the restaurant. A small, but comfortable one! One of the employees explained that apart from the bread, all other ingredients were gluten free. But, obviously, there was the gluten-free bread option.

As I am not a big fan of beef, I decided to ask for a chicken burger. For the drink, I ended up choosing a lemonade with mint. 

Ah!! Here one of the most famous starters are the onion rings. In Portugal we have something very similar, but instead of onion we use squid. For the first time I tried onion rings, and they were really good!!

In conclusion, the lunch was great, with the best gluten free burger I had so far, plus the surprise of the onion rings! I promise, I will be back again!! :)

Weekend in London #2 | The Chocolatier by Aneesh Popat

Um dos meus lugares favoritos de Londres é a área de Southbank. Lá podemos ter uma vista privilegiada do Parlamento, do Rio Tamisa, do London Eye, da animação constante feita pelos animadores de rua, enfim...um dos lugares especiais que Londres oferece.

Ao caminhar por lá parámos no mercado de Southbank. Lá podem encontrar várias barraquinhas com comida tradicional de diversos países.

Claro que o meu desafio agora é encontrar algo isento de glúten onde quer que vá. E assim foi!!

Acabei por encontrar uma barraquinha - The Chocolatier.

Assim que vi - No Gluten - parei logo! Tinha de ver bem o que era. Percebi que era dedicado a chocolates (óbvio, não? :P ), mas passado pouco tempo vi que havia algo especial...não era só a beleza dos chocolates, mas os produtos que estavam expostos...

Desde os típicos chocolates em tablet, a chocolate em pó, que pode ser adicionado a leite, mas também a bolos, etc etc, e por fim compota de chocolate. Sim, compota!!! Acabei por comprar a de Cereja, Cardamomo (gengibre) e Chocolate Negro de Madagáscar! E que boa que é!!! :))

Obviamente tive de provar um pouquinho de (quase) tudo. Estes chocolates têm um sabor especial...diferente! Um sabor que conjuga aquilo que conhecemos do chocolate com sabores/aromas da Índia. Uma mistura perfeita entre sabores do Ocidente e do Oriente!

One of my favorite places in London is the Southbank area. There we have a privileged view of the Parliament, the River Thames, the London Eye, the constant animation by the street entertainers, well ... one of the special places that London offers.
 

While walking there, we stopped at the Southbank Market. There you can find several stalls with traditional food from different countries around the world.
 

Of course, my challenge now is to find something gluten free wherever I go. And so it was !!
 

I finally found a stall  named The Chocolatier.

As soon as I saw - No Gluten - I immediately stopped! I had to see well what was that about. I realized that it was dedicated to chocolates (quite obvious, right? : P), but after a while, I saw that there was something special... it was not only the beauty of chocolates, but the products that were exposed ...
 

Since the typical chocolate bars, chocolate powder, which can be added to milk, but also cakes, etc etc, and ultimately chocolate jam. Yes, jam!!! I ended up buying the Cherry, Cardamom (ginger) and Madagascan Dark Chocolate! It is just amazing!!! :))


Of course I had to try a little bit of (almost) everything. These chocolates have a special taste...a different one! A flavour that combines what we know about chocolate with flavours / aromas from India. A perfect blend of flavours from the East and West!

Weekend in London #1 | My first gluten free doughnuts

Passar um fim de semana em Londres, com amigos, parece ser sempre um bom plano. Londres é uma cidade maravilhosa (quem me conhece sabe bem o quanto adoro aquela cidade!!), onde há imenso para se ver e viver! 

Há umas semanas atrás descobri aqui pela internet o Borough 22! 

Borough 22 é um negócio familiar de donuts, brownies e cupcakes. Devo confessar que sempre adorei donuts e que já tinha bastantes saudades!! Claro que tinha de provar estes homemade donuts!! Poucos dias antes da partida para Londres, enviei email ao Ryan a indicar a minha encomenda. E sexta-feira foi o grande dia - os meus primeiros donuts isentos de glúten!! Fresquinhos, feitos poucas horas antes, deliciosos!!

Obrigada Ryan, para além de belissimos estavam uma delicia!!!

Estes donuts são feitos com ingredientes orgânicos têm a possibilidade de ser feitos sem glúten, lactose, ovos, soja. São também vegan e vegetarianos.

Spend a weekend in London, with friends, is always a good idea. London is a wonderful city (who knows me well knows how much I love that city!!) where there is a lot to do and to live!

Few weeks ago I found out on the internet the Borough 22!

Borough 22 is a familiar business of doughnuts, brownies and cupcakes. I must confess that I have always loved doughnuts and I was missed them a lot! Of course I had to taste these homemade doughnuts!! Few days before I go to London, I sent a email to Ryan to make my order. And Friday was the big day - my first gluten free doughnuts!! Fresh, baked few hours before I get them, delicious!!

Thank you Ryan, they were beautiful and delicious!!!

These doughnuts are made with organic ingredients and can be gluten free, dairy free, egg free and soya free. They are also vegan and vegetarian.

Já imaginaram chegar a casa e ter uma caixinha cheia de snacks isentos de glúten à vossa espera?! Hoje foi o meu dia!! SNACKLY distribui, mensalmente, uma caixa com diversos snacks produzidos por produtores do Reino Unido. É uma forma muito boa de conhecer novas marcas (daqui a algum tempo falarei de uma da qual fiquei fã!!) e de quebrar a rotina daquilo a que estamos habituados a encontrar nos supermercados frequentemente!
